This is the only chapstick i will use.  It doesn’t taste like chemicals, it doesn’t rub off and it looks completely natural.  If i want color i wear lipstick, if i want shine i wear gloss, if i want my lips to be plump, totally natural-looking and moisturized –  i use Blistex Lip Revitalizer.  Unfortunately, I have only seen this glorious product for sale online.  But it’s worth it.  For real.  I order it in bulk, since tubes tend to go missing (Alana and im watching you…)!

Ingredients:  Dimethicone 1%, Benzoic Acid, Bis Diglyceryl Polyacyladipate 2, Carvone, Cyclomethicone, Flavor, Glyceryl Stearate, Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Hydrogenated Coco Glycerides, Hydrogenated Soybean Oil, Isohexadecane, Lecithin, Methylparaben, Microcrystalline Wax, Petrolatum, Phenyltrimethicone, Propylparaben, Saccharin, Silica, Sodium Lactate, Sorbic Acid, Tocopheryl Acetate (Vitamin E).

Pros:

  • Tasteless
  • Natural-look, not greasy or sticky!
  • Long lasting – I put this on in the morning… and even after lunch my lips still have a thin protective coat.
  • Inexpensive, about $2.19 a tube.
  • Can be used under lipstick for extra moisture.
  • Contains alpha hydroxy to smooth dry skin cells on lips.

Cons:

  • I have never been able to find this product in-stores… thats about it!

Shiseido The Makeup Mascara Base

Okay, so I have serious camel lashes.  And by that I mean they are straight as hell and stick directly into my eyes.  Not hot.  On a mission to resolve this issue I have spent a fortune on curling mascaras: Dior, Bobby Brown, MAC, Benefit, you get the gist.  These mascaras were clumpy.  They flaked.  And, worst of all, they didn’t curl!  I’ve even tried heated eyelash curlers, but my hands just aren’t steady enough to maneuver a hot piece of metal that close to my eyeball.  Fear not girls, I have found a cure. The secret formula = one coat of Shiseido Mascara Base, a simple eyelash curler and then a coat of normal mascara.

Ingredients:  C11-12 Isoparaffin, Dextrin Palmitate, Polyethylene, Cyclomethicone, Trimethylsiloxysilicate, Polymethylsilsequioxane, Microcrystalline Wax, isotearic Acid, Trioctanoin, Phytosteryl/Octyldodecyl Lauroyl Glutamate, Tocopheryl Acetate, Silica, Macadamia Ternifolia Nut Oil, Methicone, Tertradecene, Iron Oxides, Titanium Dioxide, Mica.

Pros:

  • This mascara base acts like hairspray for your eyelashes.  It forces them to hold a curl, without flaking or stiffening them.
  • Makes mascara un-smudgeable: I have jumped into a pool with it on, I have slept with it on… and my eyes still look fresh!
  • The tube lasts a long time!
  • Dermatologist and ophthalmologist tested.

Cons

  • Must be removed with eye-makeup remover.
  • Too much of the mascara base makes eyelashes look unnatural.
  • Be sure to close the lid tightly or this base will dry out fast.
  • Cannot be worn alone, this base is a light purple color.
  • This product is expensive, $23.00 at most department stores.

Aquafresh Iso-Active Toothpaste

Aquafresh Iso-Active Toothpaste is packaged in a metal canister, much like shaving cream.  I originally purchased this out of curiosity, but after one use I was hooked.  The iso-active gel foams upon impact with your warm mouth, but watch out – a little goes a long way!  This product makes my teeth feel smoother than with the use of any other toothpaste.  Although i am skeptical of putting chemicals in my mouth, like isopentane, it appears that this substance works in the toothpaste solely to generate foam.

Ingredients:  Sodium Flouride, Water, Sorbitol, Glycerin, Hydrated Silica, Sodium Tripolyphosphate, PEG-8, Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, Isopentane, Flavor, Carrageenan Gum, Xanthan Gum, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Sodium Hydroxide, Sodium Saccharin, FD&C Blue #1.

Dr. Bronner’s Magic Soaps

Dr. Bronner’s Magic Soaps offer a luxurious lather without any harmful detergents.  The peppermint fragrance is my favorite, upon contact the smooth bubbles give an icy-tingling sensation and i feel squeaky clean the rest of the day.  The entire bathroom smells like a mint candy after i use this as body wash, but no scent remains on my skin; this soap does not interfere with my perfume.

Ingredients:  Water, Saponified Organic Coconut* & Organic Olive* Oils (w/ Retained Glycerin), Organic Hemp Oil, Jojoba Oil, Natural Fragrance, Citric Acid, Vitamin E.

Pros:

  • Certified Fair Trade Ingredients*
  • No synthetics or detergents.
  • Eco-Friendly:  100% Post-Consumer Recycled Plastic Bottle and 100% Vegan.
  • Sold in a variety of Fragrances: Peppermint, Almond, Rose, Eucalyptus, Citrus, Lavender, Baby Mild, and Tea Tree .

Cons:

  • I do not recommend the bar soap, the lather is not full-bodied and the fragrances are weak.
  • Price is slightly higher than competitor’s, a 32 Oz. bottle costs approximately $13.99
  • The packaging is unusual, covered with radical quotes about unity, “We’re all-one or none!”
  • The nozzle of the bottle can get clogged if you don’t close the lid tightly.
